West Coast Operator Algebra Symposium
NOTE: Please Pre-register if you are planning on attending.
This year's West Coast Operator Algebra Symposium will
be held at the University of Victoria in
Victoria, B.C.,
Canada. The local organizers are John Phillips and
Ian Putnam.
This annual event, which began as a strictly California affair, has long since
expanded to include such coastal cities as Calgary, Reno and Prince George.
This is it's first appearance in Victoria and promises to be a good
one with the usual mix of established mathematicians and youngsters. Financial
support in reverse seniority basis will be available from PIMS and NSF.
Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17, 1999.
We expect the talks to begin Saturday morning and end
by noon or early afternoon on Sunday. Participants
should expect to arrive on Friday.

The symposium will take place at the University of Victoria in
the Human and Social Development Building Room A240.
We have received support from the Pacific
Institute for the Mathematical Sciences. This will be
distributed on the usual inverse seniority basis.
Please fill out the Pre-registration form if you are planning to attend.
In the unlikely event that we don't receive funding from NSF, a small
registration fee will be charged to those who can afford it.
We have received assurance from the
Executive House and the
Strathcona Hotel
that they will have plenty of rooms available on
the nights of October 15 and 16.
The conference rate at the Executive
House is C$70 per night single or double occupancy, while the conference rate
at the Strathcona Hotel is C$54 per night single or double occupancy.
Participants should mention that they are attending
the WCOAS when making reservations to get the conference rate.
The phone numbers are:
Executive House 250-388-5111. (Toll free from North America 1-800-663-7001)
Strathcona Hotel 250-383-7137. (Toll free from North America 1-800-663-7476)
Both hotels are downtown within a couple of blocks of each other and
are 15 minutes away from UVic
by car. You can also catch the
number 4 bus
to get to UVic.
Here are some useful links for out of town participants.
